2 newly married, Graduates, from American University of Antigua,
College of Medicine, take the stage at the Grand Hyatt, in New York City, on Friday June 3, 2011.
It's was a bright and sunny afternoon, in New York, when over, 150 med-school, Graduates from AUA prepared to cross the stage in caps and gowns. Especially proud and happy, was Haitian born, Graduate Alberto Marcelin. His new wife, Jasmine-Riviere Marcelin, also a graduate, who was asked to be valedictorian of the entire, 2011 class.
“ It's was already an honor.” to be graduating from medical school, much-less with my wife, as valedictorian.” Friends and family gathered around in support of the graduating couple, for a weekend of festive moments. Especially proud was Jasmine's father, Judge, Asquith Riviere,
Alberto's mother, maddame Deliverance Daut, and her very proud brother, Larry Riviere, also known as Nubi,who took two days off, just to be by his sister's side. The anticipation only intensified, when Jasmine Rivere-Marcelin, le' “valedictorian” delivered her heart-felt speech. “I had only one week to prepare.” Jasmine admitted. Over 1000 attendees, watched in amazement at the young grad as she shared their story. “We saw cows passing by our classroom window.[] We came a long way, from Med school back in Antigua.”
Later that weekend, writer, Kadraj Audate, joined them for a 'private interview' during a brunch, at her aunt's mansion in Oyster Bay Cove. Here's what the couple revealed: “When we met two years ago in Med-school, both our families loved eachother, so we decided to just get married.” Alberto offered. “Just being together, knowing we married, really made this journey so much easier....but “our parents have been very supportive. They made alot of sacrifices, for us...and we just thank our God that [we] met.” The couple had made their own share of sacrifices, when they decided not to have a big wedding ceremony. “The important thing was to save our finances, and focus on what's important.',
